Do you support school districts' attempts to minimize cellphone usage in classrooms? Story: Editorial:
The Richardson ISD Administration Building in Richardson, Texas, Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022.Richardson ISD is considering a new restriction for cellphone use by secondary students in grades 7-12.
A student who enters school with a cellphone would turn it off and place it in the Yondr pouch, which prevents the phone from being used. “Cellphone use among RISD secondary students during the school day has become a major issue, especially in recent years,” Branum said in a prepared statement. “Phone use among students, and the ongoing classroom distractions and disciplinary issues that accompany it, are causing more and more school districts to re-evaluate student cellphone use during the school day.”
If approved, each junior high school, followed by each high school, would implement Yondr during the first weeks of the 2022-23 school year.
