Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities are working to clear the road.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - As of 9 a.m. Friday, February 18, the Richardson Hwy is closed between milepost 218 to 190. This is the Summit Lake area where multiple snow slides have occurred. The DOT Trim Station received 12 inches of new snow.
24 inches on new snow was reported around milepost 202. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities have crews out working to clear the road. Several avalanche slides have also been reported in Southcentral Alaska along the Seward and Old Glenn Highways. The Alaska State Troopers are urging all drivers in the state to drive with caution. Give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination, drive with your headlights on and give yourself plenty of space between you and the next driver.
