Gumshoe Richard Gere and his trenchcoat want to find out what happened to the estranged son he never knew
We have good news and bad news for Richard Gere , star of the upcoming drama Longing . The good news: Gere’s character, Daniel Bloch , just found out that he’s a father. The bad: His new son is dead. With his English-language remake of Longing , Israeli director Savi Gabizon takes a second stab at the movie he made in 2017, joining the likes of Michael Haneke , Sebastián Lelio , and Alfred Hitchcock . He’s in good company even if Gere is not.
In an attempt to learn something, anything, about the child he’ll never know, Bloch heads to his late son’s school to follow the truth wherever it leads. Apparently, Allen was a musician who owed money to a drug dealer for what must’ve been a hell of a lot of weed. He was in love with his teacher, played by Diane Kruger, whom his mother regards as a “curse.” Then he finds the journal. Looks like fatherhood isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
