Rice has won four in a row to climb to third in conference and hosts UAB on Saturday
Rice and coach Scott Pera, reacting after a game-winning shot to beat UTEP two weeks ago, have had plenty to cheer about recently.On Thursday night at Tudor Fieldhouse, Rice had blown a 15-point second-half advantage to Charlotte. The game was tied in the closing seconds when the Owls’ Quincy Olivari was fouled in the act of shooting.
In mid-January Rice began its winning streak when Travis Evee hit a buzzer-beating floater just outside the lane in a thrilling 83-82 home victory over UTEP. Big man Max Fiedler also had an impressive outing against Charlotte. Fiedler contributed a season-high five blocks with three steals and five assists.
It is a short turnaround for both Rice and UAB, whch may or may not have star guard Jordan Walker available. Second in the nation in scoring , Walker missed UAB’s 65-59 home win over Louisiana Tech on Thursday.
