Rey Skywalker's future in Star Wars remains uncertain, and recent news about Star Wars' upcoming movies makes me even more nervous about what the franchise's plan is for this character. Star Wars shocked many with the news that Simon Kinberg is working on a brand-new trilogy. Details on the new movies remain limited, including whether the new trilogy will be Episodes 10-12 in the Star Wars timeline.

Unquestionably, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was largely unpopular, with many still considering it one of Star Wars' worst movies. For one, Rey has adopted the last name Skywalker, making her the continuation of the Skywalker legacy.

Rey Deserves To Be So Much More Than This Rey Has Just Become A Full-Fledged Jedi—We Need To See That Story The Rise of Skywalker, however controversial, saw Rey at the height of her power. Whatever Star Wars story comes next for Rey should build upon this momentum, not cut it short. The conclusion of The Rise of Skywalker also left Rey clearly on the precipice of her true beginning as a Jedi.

A new movie or trilogy featuring Rey as the star could focus on her character individually rather than how she connects to the various Star Wars characters who came before her.

He, too, took on the Obi-Wan role, becoming Rey's mentor but never getting to shine as a Jedi Master at the helm of a brand-new Order.
