Former Syracuse quarterback Rex Culpepper celebrated a major milestone less than a month before his death on Saturday, March 14

Less than a month before his tragic death, former Syracuse University quarterback Rex Culpepper was celebrating a major milestone. Culpepper recently got engaged to his fiancée, Savanna Morgan, which he shared via social media on February 21.

“Soooo….what are we???” Culpepper and Morgan wrote in a joint Instagram post alongside a carousel of photos from the proposal, which happened in Highlands, North Carolina. Culpepper died on Saturday, March 14, after sustaining injuries in a dirt bike accident, according to the Tampa Bay Times. He was 28 years old. The former quarterback’s brother, Judge, commented that Rex missed “a dirt-bike outing” in order to propose. “I thought about driving 1800 miles in one night just to make it but i got soft hands,” Rex responded. “No one expects to meet the love of your life and lose them in only 6 short years after meeting,” she shared via Instagram. “Rex didnt always believe in soulmates but towards the end he told me that he didnt realize what having a soulmate felt like until we felt like extensions of each other. And one thing about us is that we lived every single day like it was our last. We did every little thing that we set our minds to, between learning new skills and hobbies, and traveling to new places, there was never any free time with us and not a moment spent apart. I dont regret a single day in our 6 years.” Morgan admitted that “myself and all of you who cared about him will never truly be able to move on after knowing someone like him.” “I will carry on his hobbies forever,” she continued. “I dont think this Rex shaped hole inside of me will ever be filled. But seeing how much everyone around him loved him so greatly, makes my heart full. So here are some parts of him that I would like to share with you, to hopefully make your heart full too.”Rex is also survived by his parents, Brad and Monica, his brother, Judge, and his sister, Honor. Brad, 56, played nine seasons in the NFL from 1992 to 2000. He and Monica, 55, each appeared on two seasons of Survivor after his football playing days were over. “Oh, our Rex, our biggest brother,” Honor shared via Instagram on Monday. “You were the center of all Universe’s. I don’t have the words right now, and I’m not sure I will. But for now, if you knew Rex, even briefly, please comment a memory, so we can read and laugh and cry.”
