Readers weigh in on Jimmie Johnson, William Byron, F1 issues, and more.
Denny Hamlin has long spent his NASCAR career as the kind of guy who believes in"Do as I say, not as I do." He's been at fault for so many incidents in his Cup career, yet he always has this"Who, me?" look of disbelief when called out as the guy to blame for those incidents.
SCO2900: NASCAR is really a spec racing series now, with an all new chassis, so there are some teething problems in the first year. It will get developed and over the next year or two these issues will be resolved. Tire issues make sense, they have a new lower profile tire that really has not had enough development on all the oval scenarios. Probably not possible to fully develop without just putting the cars on track and seeing what goes wrong.
HADRIAN762: Every tire that Goodyear brings to a track is designed specifically for that track and comes with a recommended minimum air pressure for that tire design. If teams don't want to follow the tech guidance then that's on them.I totally agree with all your comments. If teams didn't push the envelope so much at Texas, there might not have been as many issues.
RallyeFordGuru: AMEN! Lose the grid penalties for the drivers and ding the teams with constructor's points penalties instead. These are two of the best responses of the week across all reader comments in all stories we've run. Short but eloquent and to the point. I couldn't say it better: If there's a grid penalty due to blatant or abject mechanical failure , penalize the teams with a loss in constructor's points, not the drivers.
