Auburn’s biggest star and its biggest personality sat side by side at the dais in Bon Secours Wellness Arena and were asked what they would remember most about this team and this season. Both offered similar sentiments: The shared bond and relationships developed over the past 10 months are what will last for this historic edition of Auburn basketball. Kessler flirted with a handful of other triple-doubles this season. He was two blocks shy of the stat line in wins against Alabama on Feb. 1 and Ole Miss on Feb. 23. He needed three more blocks in the overtime loss at Arkansas on Feb. 8, and then he came within a block of a triple-double in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against Jacksonville State. The 7-foot-1 center was a blocking maestro this season,while averaging 4.
Green raced down the court, four on one, and spun past Aaron Cook before colliding with Jaxon Etter in the paint. Green bobbled the ball, corralled it, and snuck in the go-ahead layup under the arms of Braelen Bridges. The layup was Green’s most consequential play of the game, but it might not have been his most eye-popping. Earlier in the game, he threw an alley-oop off the backboard to Devan Cambridge for what was surely one of the top highlight-reel plays of the Tigers’ season.
