The same old tropes still work in this latest edition but for how much longer? And Neve Campbell is sorely missed.
Last time around, the Carpenter sisters — Samantha and Tara — were beset by a series of Ghostface killings partly connected to Sam being the heretofore unknown daughter of Billy Loomis , the baddie in the very first “Scream.” Now attending college in NYC, Tara and Sam, along with fellow “Scream” ’22 survivors Chad and Mindy Meeks , have tried to put those events behind them.
Even more so than previous installments, this one really feels like a juncture for the series as it charts a new course. While Courteney Cox’s TV reporter Gale Weathers returns, she’s the sole representative from the 1996 original, with legacy lead Neve Campbell sitting this one out . As a result, the focus is more on the newer characters — “The Core Four,” as Chad calls them — to carry our interest.
