San Jose Playhouse delivers a rousing production of “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812,’ a musical drawn from ‘War and Pease.’

When observing the optics of San Jose Playhouse’s new production of “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812,” it’s clear as day that the company housed in downtown San Jose’s 3Below Theaters has pulled out all the stops.

Natasha and cousin Sonya visit Natasha’s godmother Marya , while engaging in a disastrous meeting with her prospective in-laws led by Andrey’s sister Mary . Mary and Natasha find each other abhorrent, which only makes Natasha long for Andrey more than ever.Natasha becomes smitten with the dashing yet dastardly Anatole , who exudes all the confidence one would expect when wearing snug, shimmery gold pants and perfectly coiffed hair.

The musical, which is fully sung through over the course of two-and-a-half hours, is a fantastic vehicle for the talents of Aisenberg and her counterparts. Hunt is a solid, young performer, crafting a delightful give and take with Aisenberg. Fine is in terrific form engaging with a playful turn of her multiple characterizations.
