Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski has announced a review of the state's watch houses, to address 'end-to-end systemic issues' within its 63 facilities.
Queensland Police Service has launched a wide-ranging review into watch house s across the state, in response to rising complaints and occupancy rates.This week, watch house officers will be fitted with body worn cameras, and a real-time online dashboard will be set up to increase transparency of watch house occupancy rates and stay lengths.
The commissioner addressed a story by the ABC's 7.30 program, which honed in on a boy's heavy-handed treatment by guards at the Richlands watch house on Brisbane's south-western outskirts.7.30 has obtained footage showing police beating an Indigenous youth repeatedly with a baton in a watch house, sparking allegations of excessive use of force.
