A former barista at Birmingham's Revelator Coffee says staff found out about the café's closure abruptly via text last Friday night. On Saturday, bands used the downtown coffee shop's space to raise money for the employees who suddenly lost their jobs.

The next day, the partner of one of the store managers wanted to use the coffee shop to host a benefit concert that would include Russell’s bandOn Saturday night, Russell and his bandmates went into the former Revelator Coffee Shop to prepare for their show. After a few minutes of setting up equipment and doing a sound check, DJ Breuin opened the show. Then another rock band, Confusion’s Prince, and a singer fromApprehend, and started blasting their music.
Russell said the band was able to raise a few hundred dollars that was split among the former employees.from their show with the caption saying: “We threw a show there last night for them taking our job out from under us.”
