MOST READ | The DA’s highest decision-making structure, its federal executive, has decided to retrench some party employees, in a move described as creating “a structure that is more suited” to the party’s current needs.

In an internal email, dated Tuesday, May 26, circulated to party employees, the party’s federal council chairperson, Helen Zille, indicates that, following a review process by the federal executive, a decision, although “painful”, had been deemed “necessary” to “restructure” the organisation.

The decision to restructure was initially communicated via a memorandum sent to party employees in February. At the time, DA federal finance chairperson Dion George told City Press that the party was working on finalising its new structure, after which it would be able to determine exactly how many employees would be axed. He said this was standard practice in the organisation, especially after elections.

this decision comes just a week after DA interim leader John Steenhuisen said the party was in a much better position than it had been a year ago“We fully funded our elections for 2019. We are on track for the 2020/21 budget process, which we have started. We have operated without a deficit. Financially, the DA is not in a crisis. Our donations are robust,” said George.
