SUNBURY – The former police chief of Sunbury has paid to the court the nearly $7,000 in video gaming money he is accused of stealing from the social hall office of a volunteer fire company of which he was an officer.

Hare, who had been a member of the force since 2001 and chief twice, retired on Oct. 9 after being on paid sick leave for more than a month.Hare is prohibited from being on fire company property and cannot discuss the case with family members who work there, according to terms set by visiting Lycoming County Senior District Judge Allen P. Page III when he released him on $15,000 unsecured bail.
Unrelated to the criminal case, the city is waiting for the results of a forensic audit of the police department and treasurer’s office.City Council in July hired a firm after irregularities were discovered in police reimbursable overtime payments.
