PETALING JAYA: Denmark’s men doubles badminton star Mathias Boe will have more time to spend with his Bollywood actress girlfriend Taapsee Pannu (pic) now that he is happily retired from competitive sport.

Last week, Boe ended his illustrious 20-year career that saw him and partner Carsten Mogensen winning two All-England titles and two World Championships silver medals in London and Guangzhou .

They used to travel to meet each other as Taapsee is based in Mumbai, India, but now that Boe is no longer playing badminton for the national team, he can probably spend more time with her when the travel restrictions due to Covid-19 are lifted in their respective countries. “When we are out somewhere... the focus will always be on her, ” said Boe to Danish tabloid newspaper B. T.“We keep it a little secret out here, so I don’t really know if they think I’m a bodyguard or personal assistant.

Boe and Taapsee reportedly first met during the inaugural Indian Badminton League in 2013 where Boe played for Lucknow-based Awade Warriors while Taapsee was the brand ambassador of Hyderabad Hotshots.
