A local doctor warns of a rise in respiratory illnesses following the holiday season, citing factors like colder weather, travel, and gatherings. Flu, RSV, and COVID-19 cases are all on the increase.
Respiratory illnesses are on the rise following the holiday season, according to a local doctor. Between colder, drier weather, traveling and crowded gatherings, respiratory cases are steadily increasing. University Health reported 337 positive flu cases for the week of December 30th, compared to 100-125 cases per week before the holidays. Flu isn't the only respiratory illness being reported. RSV cases are high and COVID-19 cases are rising.
In the last three months, 250 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported across Texas. Doctors urge people not to wait to get vaccinated against these illnesses. RSV vaccines are available for adults over 75 years old and those over 60 with pre-existing conditions. The COVID-19 and flu vaccines can also help protect against severe illness
