“It was my own decision to do so,” she said, adding that her resignation is subject to approval by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.Describing her meeting with Muhyiddin as cordial, Latheefa said he “understands my position”. Her resignation comes almost a week after Tommy Thomas stepped down as the attorney-general. Thomas later told FMT that he was dutibound to give up the post as he was appointed by Mahathir.

Her appointment was met with mixed response, with some criticising it as a political appointment for not going through Parliament.
