DEVELOPING: Crews are responding to a 4-alarm apartment fire near Lake Merrit in Oakland early Friday morning.
Firefighters in Oakland are working to evacuate people from a senior living apartment building near Lake Merritt where there was a 4-alarm fire early Friday morning.ABC7 Bay Area 24/7 streaming channelThe response was at an apartment complex at 401 Santa Clara Ave, which is about a block from the Grand Lake Theatre near I-580. The California Highway Patrol has closed the Grand Avenue offramp from westbound 580.
ABC7 News is on the scene and has seen at least three people being taken away on stretchers, but it is unclear what their injuries may be. No smoke or flames were visible from the street, and ABC7 News is working to find out more about where the fire was located. Neighbors say that it is a senior living apartment complex, and firefighters are helping seniors in need evacuate down the stairs.
