A petition to keep the popular Kibble Palace in the Glasgow Botanic Gardens free has been submitted to the City Council as residents demand they make a U-turn.
Residents worry that the number of visitors to Kibble Palace in Glasgow Botanic Gardens will drop 'dramatically' if plans to charge an entry fee go ahead.
It comes as the council bids to raise £185,000 for the city as part of their budget. It is understood the charges will be £3 for adults or £1.50 for concessions. "Visits may drop dramatically, resulting in lower income. For many - especially the elderly and those with children, a visit to the Botanics isn't enough without The Kibble's welcoming shelter, warmth and fish.
"The council should immediately reverse the decision to charge entry to any publicly owned parks or glasshouses and reaffirm its commitment to public engagement by holding a public consultation before making any changes to access to public parks including buildings, gardens and glasshouses."
