Zach Cregger confirms his Resident Evil reboot is set during Resident Evil 2, with production underway in Prague.
Zach Cregger confirmed that his next film will take place within the timeline of Resident Evil 2. Speaking in an interview withabout his upcoming projects, the director clarified, “I’m not telling Leon’s story.
You know what I mean? I’m not using any of the characters from the games.” He continued, “I’m telling my story that exists in the world of Resident Evil 2. You could play 2 and never know that the events of my story are happening right over there, but they are.” He also added, “I’m following the rules, but I’m not claiming any key, canon characters because we have those in the games” Cregger most recently directed Weapons, released through Warner Bros., which is now available on Digital and will arrive on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on October 14. The film follows the disappearance of nearly an entire class of children in one night, leaving their community searching for answers. Its cast includes Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, Amy Madigan, and Austin Abrams. Cregger said of the film, “Everyone did such a great job. It’s not like it’s just my movie. It takes a lot of talented artists to make any movie. Everybody brought their A-game and I’m happy to be the beneficiary.” He further revealed that Warner Bros. is developing a prequel focused on Aunt Gladys, played by Amy Madigan. Cregger explained, “It is real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it. There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bull****.” He added, “I was ready. I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out.” Cregger is preparing in Prague for his Resident Evil reboot with Sony Pictures.
