Resident Evil Requiem has only been out for a week, and yet it may have already given players a taste—or a sip, rather—of what game will launch next in the Resident Evil franchise. It isn’t terribly subtle, but it has been quite easy to overlook until Suzi Hunter pointed out on Twitter/X that a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake tease has been under our noses all along.

RE9 Has A Classy Resident Evil Code: Veronica Easter Egg The proposed Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake clue is a bottle, found in the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center’s second-floor bar and lounge area, that reads, “Avernico.” It’s possible that this could merely be Capcom’s attempt at creatively naming a type of fictional liquor, though it’s highly unlikely that this was its sole purpose or coincidental, due to Avernico being an anagram for Veronica. This doesn’t appear to be a naming convention that was used frivolously, and it seems fair to presume that a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake is not only in the works, but also the Resident Evil game that is scheduled to follow Resident Evil Requiem. The validity of this theory is reinforced by the slew of Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake rumors that have stirred for the last little while. Remaking Resident Evil Code: Veronica would probably be a tall order, as its story and tone are much more absurd than many other games in the franchise. But, depending on what Capcom wishes for the narrative of Resident Evil 10 to explore, and considering what Easter eggs and clone cameos were featured in Resident Evil Requiem, it might finally be time for the franchise’s remake continuity to explore Resident Evil Code: Veronica. For instance, newer fans of the series whose experience with it began with Resident Evil 7 or Resident Evil Village will undoubtedly be in the dark about who Resident Evil Requiem’s Zeno is a clone of unless they played the Resident Evil 4 remake, and a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake introducing them to Albert Wesker before a hypothetical Resident Evil 5 remake would be a storytelling boon. A Lot Of Resident Evil May Be On The Way Resident Evil Code: Veronica isn’t the only Resident Evil game rumored to be receiving a remake, with Resident Evil 10 probably not releasing for a while after Resident Evil Requiem. If the rest of these related rumors are all legitimate, it’s possible that we could see remakes for at least Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 0, and Resident Evil 1, as well as Resident Evil Code: Veronica, and they might all be released within a decent span from one another.
