Reader opinions on the new Resident Evil game are mixed, with some expressing disappointment in the final act and suggesting the game was rushed. Comparisons are made to the earlier success of the game and discussions are happening on PC vs Console pricing and their performance.
Does it deserve a backlash? The Wednesday letters page already has suggestions for a Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake, as one reader wishes Pokémon Pokopia had combat. Games Inbox is a collection of our readers’ letters, comments, and opinions.
To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@metro.co.uk Not quite greatI’ve seen a lot of people talking about disappointment in the final act of Resident Evil Requiem and I’m one of them. I’d even go a little further and say I think the game is a bit of a disappointment. The first six hours or so are great – maybe the best modern Resident Evil has ever been – but after that I think it starts to rapidly go downhill. As other people have said the ending is anticlimactic and makes no sense with both villains just being thrown away with no explanation or fanfare. I also don’t get why they were collecting Grace’s blood at the beginning if… well, I’m not going to get into spoiler territory. For me it’s a good game but while it could’ve been great it doesn’t get there. It feels to me like it was rushed, maybe originally to get it out before GTA 6, back when it was going to come out in May. Either way I think they should’ve delayed it by a few months and we would’ve got something even better. The backlash starts here!Henry IX The console advantageThe PlayStation hardware price rises are unfortunate, but I don’t think a PC can offer equivalent performance for a lower, or even a similar price. That’s partly why the Steam Machine specs were a letdown for some, as it appears to be roughly equivalent in power to a base PlayStation 5 but will undoubtedly cost a lot more . I think it’s often overlooked that a games console is designed from the ground up to do one thing whereas PCs have to balance other demands. So in addition to developers taking advantage of the fixed platform to better optimise games for the console hardware , the consoles also require less overall RAM which will help keep prices merely massively inflated, rather than remortgage your house expensive, as DDR5 memory has become. That’s not to say PC gaming isn’t awesome, I love it and it scratches that tinkerer itch in me that consoles don’t, but I think anyone that believes they can move from console to PC and get a similar, tailored experience will get a shock. I think consoles will always have their place. Meanwhile, let’s hope the AI bubble bursts and we all stop voting for people who crash the economy and further knacker our spending money.Magnumstache Dream remakeLike many people, Zelda: Ocarina Of Time is my favourite game. By coincidence, I started it again the other day, before the news of a remake and that got me thinking, what would I like to see? I was playing the 3DS version, which has quality of life changes and smoother graphics but just to do that on the Switch 2 would seem a waste. If they go the whole nine yards, I would love more enemies in the world where they appear , not to change a single puzzle but also to add in the Temple of Light. That could really be a selling point, for it will justify the remake and make the section where you become adult Link a little less jarring, where for no reason you get the light medallion. Those are my suggestions but it’s Nintendo, we can only dream. Will Email your comments to: gamecentral@metro.co.uk Three-for-oneSo I’m scrolling through my phone and I head over to the CeX website. I decide to take a look at the Nintendo Switch 2 games and see if there’s anything interesting in stock. Since I had a voucher with £62 store credit, maybe there’s something I can put it towards. I then come across a listing for the Resident Evil Generation Pack, which just so happens to only be available until today – at least according to what Capcom have stated. It was either luck or timing that I happened across this listing, because before I know it I’m on a bus to the nearest store and trading in my PlayStation 5 copy of Resident Evil Requiem. Combining the £44 I received for the game and buying the bundle without even paying a single penny. An absolute no-brainier as far as purchases go. Three fantastic games, two with additional content and one with upcoming DLC. Technically it counts right now as the most expensive video game purchase I’ve ever made, unless GTA 6 is over £100. But it’s a purchase well made. Speaking of Capcom, Pragmata has officially gone gold. Hoping it works out well.Shahzaib Sadiq A genuine bargain Buying the dipTrying to buy Epic Games just as Fortnite sees a downturn in popularity sounds like exactly the sort of dumb thing an out of touch exec would try to do. I suppose the logic is that they’ll be cheaper to buy if Fortnite is experiencing a dip but what guarantee do they have that it’ll ever recover? And if it doesn’t you know they’ll just lay off everyone even quicker than Epic has, since Epic at least has to keep some people employed to keep the lights on. Not that I could care less about Fortnite but reading about a thousand developers being laid off just like that upsets me. This industry is so careless about its employees and doesn’t seem to value their skills at all.Danson Keep fightingI’m really enjoying Pokémon Pokopia, unfortunately I ended up buying digitally as I couldn’t find it anywhere. But I find it odd that combat has been completely removed. The Dragon Quest Builders games had combat, and pokémon is obviously famous for battling ‘mons, so for Pokopia to completely eschew it seems an odd choice. I miss it, as it was a bit of excitement while exploring in the other games and we know that pokémon in the wild fight over habitats and just generally being mean. Otherwise, I find the game quite fantastic and highly recommend it. I even find myself hoping for DLC to continue, something I usually hate. I’ve also always avoided Animal Crossing and its ilk, but this game is making me reconsider it. Also, I echo the reader’s sentiment that Sony have just removed any chance of me buying into a PlayStation 5 or 6; I’ll be very surprised if that isn’t the death knell of the traditional home console industry. Keep well everyone.Solabound Predictably suspiciousWas very sad to see that a lot of people in the Underbox seemed to not believe I got a PS5 Pro for that price, not sure why they’d think I’d lie. So here’s a picture. Happy gaming everyone.P B Everything’s a lie or conspiracy to some people 20 year planI’ve said on these pages before, I’m not that interested in upgrading to a Switch 2 any time soon, as I think the games are at least a bit meh. Donkey Kong Bonanza is the only game that’s putting its head up out of the trenches at the moment and even that, if I’m honest, in 20 years time, I probably won’t be that bothered if I’ve played it or not, especially if it’s still has a high price tag. However, having said that. If they remake Zelda: Ocarina of Time and it’s not just an upgraded iteration of the 3DS version then my head is going to get turned, that really is my favourite game of all time and closing in on being 30 years old soon. I do need confirmation though, as word of mouth is not enough to throw that sort of money at a console. I’ve obviously got a lot older over the years, and it takes a bit more to impress me these days. As it did the older guys that came along before me. I do wonder how the younger generation get impressed these days with tech though? It was mind blowing when I was young. Yet these days it just seems to be another upgrade. Over time I began to lean into gameplay and I do wonder if the younger generation are a step ahead of me at the same age when I was that young? Anyway, I’m getting a Switch 2 if Ocarina of Time is going to be released on it.freeway 77 GC: The only guarantee about the world in the 20 years’ time is that Nintendo first party games won’t have reduced in price. Also, Mario Kart World and Pokémon Pokopia are not meh or anything close to it. Inbox also-ransXbox having to make do with Fanta as its tie-in merch just about says it all. Couldn’t they at least have afforded Irn Bru?Goober I’m writing this ahead of April 1 and all I can say is I can’t wait until April 2.
