A manga adaptation of the 2023 animated film Resident Evil: Death Island is scheduled for release on September 29, 2026. Illustrated by Zino and produced with Capcom's involvement, the manga aims to bring the film's cinematic action and horror to the comic page. It will appeal to both long-time fans and newcomers to the biopunk horror genre.

The popular Resident Evil franchise is set to expand with a manga adaptation of the recent animated film Resident Evil: Death Island. However, the upcoming release may disappoint some fans as it arrives several years after the film's original debut.

The manga is scheduled for release on September 29, 2026, while the live-action film reboot is also anticipated around the same period. The animated movie, directed by Eiichirō Hasumi, features beloved characters like Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers as they face a severe outbreak on Alcatraz Island. The film premiered in Singapore on June 22, 2023, followed by a Japanese release on July 7, 2023.

It later screened in Taiwan, Malaysia, and Greece before a digital rollout. The manga adaptation is illustrated by acclaimed artist Zino and produced in collaboration with Capcom and the Death Island Film Partners. It aims to translate the cinematic scale of the film into manga panels, combining intense action with atmospheric horror.

The story is described as featuring heart-stopping encounters, explosive set pieces, and character-driven drama, designed to attract both veteran fans of the video game series and newcomers to biopunk horror manga. The official synopsis states: A deadly outbreak on Alcatraz Island draws DSO agent Leon S. Kennedy into a kidnapping case that unravels into a global biohazard conspiracy.

As Chris Redfield uncovers a related threat in San Francisco, the world's most iconic survivors are pulled together for a desperate fight against a mutating nightmare. The manga will be available for preorder through major retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and Forbidden Planet for UK and European readers. This adaptation adds another medium to the sprawling Resident Evil universe, which continues to grow across games, films, and other merchandise.

While the delayed manga release might seem unusual, it could serve to reintroduce the film's story to a broader audience or capitalize on renewed interest from the upcoming live-action reboot. The collaboration with Capcom ensures authenticity, and Zino's involvement promises high-quality artwork.

However, some fans may question the timing and relevance of adapting a 2023 film in 2026, especially as the franchise moves forward with new projects. The manga will likely delve deeper into the film's narrative, potentially expanding on character backgrounds or adding scenes not present in the movie. It remains to be seen whether this adaptation will offer fresh insights or merely retell the existing story in a different format.

For now, supporters of the series can look forward to obtaining the physical volume later this year and experiencing the Death Island saga in a new visual style
