Nursing home resident dies in facility not properly equipped to provide his care
A man with neurological issues in a Lytham care home died of a drug related death after taking amphetamines while he had temporarily left the facility the day before.

This meant that the amphetamines would have suppressed his central nervous system, meaning that he ended up with gastric products in his lungs, the court was told.
The inquest was told how his behaviour was becoming increasingly hostile, and that things had ‘reached a point where he barricaded himself in his room.’ His mental capacity was also fluctuating, said care home manager Diane Langford, even though he was being seen by mental health teams and his GP was involved.Ms Langford said that his capacity’ fluctuated’, meaning, “He would think he could fly, or he would think that he could jump out the window.
He continued: “One interpretation of the situation is that you have somebody who has fluctuating capacity, who can have good days and bad days, affected by his neurological issues, which can affect his behaviour, and he’s not been restricted in any way - he can come and go as he wishes.
