The pooch wasn't budging!
Mountain rescue teams in the Lake District were scrambled to the aid of an 'injured and exhausted' dog, who refused to move after climbing Scafell Pike.
The owners of the stricken pooch were on a return walk to Langdale when they had to call police for assistance. Keswick Mountain Rescue Team rushed to the scene on Saturday , where they found the dog unwilling to budge. They started to climb towards Esk Hause in the Lake District and the dog's owners were encouraged to descend towards them. After meeting at Grains Gill, the large dog was carried down the 3209 ft mountain on a stretcher. The job was initially handed to teams at Langdale Ambleside MRT after PhoneFind identified the casualty's location. But "having already had a very busy day with multiple callouts", the Langdale Ambleside team passed it to Keswick.
According to rescuers, the dog's owners had begun to feel the cold after waiting for so long on the mountainside. The casualty was made comfortable in a ‘cas bag’ - like a pooch pouch - on the stretcher and sledged/carried back to Seathwaite Farm.A KMRT spokesperson said: "Despite being quite a large dog at 33kg it was a joy to carry such a relatively lightweight casualty. The casualty remained cool, calm and positively regal throughout.
"The casualty and owners were given a lift to Keswick Team Base where other members of their party collected them."
