A rescue donkey named Hope, from Arkansas, may have the longest ears in the world after measurements exceeded 40 centimeters, potentially breaking the existing record. The owner, Hannah Frost, is awaiting official confirmation from Guinness World Records.
"She is the sweetest, most stoic donkey. Whenever she arrived, she was actually pretty depressed and pretty shut down, and as you can see she's very outgoing. She's got her personality back", said Hannah.
It was her vet who noticed the length of Hope's ears. That sparked her into doing her own research. She discovered the current world record holder. He lives in the United Kingdom with ears measuring 35 centimeters.On Friday, Hope's ears were measured by an expert to see if that is true! With measuring tape in hand, Julia Smith, a veterinarian with Central Georgia Equine Services, checked the length. "The base of the skull, where the ear connects, has a lot of muscle. So, it connects down here all the way up to the tip of the ear, and both ears measured a little over 40 centimeters on average", said Smith. That's more than 15 inches.Hannah has a little bit more paperwork before Guinnesses can make it official, but she says she is looking forward to Hope winning the title. "I am excited for her. I think her backstory comes from where she did.
