Republicans have denied that their Farm Bill plans amount to cutting SNAP benefits.
Anti-poverty groups have issued a warning that Republican proposals regarding the upcoming Farm Bill could plunge more Americans into food poverty.In a letter sent to GOP and Democratic lawmakers in the Senate, the Center for Science in the Public Interest and Hunger Free America urged Republicans to abandon their 'attack on vulnerable Americans' with their proposals for the agriculture bill.
'Newsweek has contacted Boozman's office for comment via email.Nevertheless, the CSPI and Hunger Free America beg to differ.'At a time when grocery prices are still high, SNAP has already been cut back, and families are struggling to put food on the table, the Farm Bill should not be a legislative vehicle for cutting SNAP,' the letter reads.
