The college football playoff game between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish was postponed by 24 hours after a vehicle drove into a crowd in New Orleans’ French Quarter Wednesday. Dozens of people were injured and at least 14 died during the incident, which authorities have labeled a terror attack. Tom Wilson, CEO of the Allstate Corporation, delivered a statement during the game broadcast, in which he called on viewers to accept others’ differences. The insurance giant has been the main sponsor of the Sugar Bowl for years. “Our prayers are with the victims and their families,” Wilson said. “We also need to be stronger together by overcoming an addiction to divisiveness and negativity. Join Allstate working in local communities all across America to amplify the positive, increase trust and accept peoples’ imperfections and differences. Together, we win.” The statement sparked outrage with GOP lawmakers, who slammed Allstate for not explicitly condemning terrorism. “Allstate should fire everyone responsible for this disgusting ad released during the Sugar Bowl,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., wrote via X. “Instead of condemning terrorism, Allstate CEO Tim Wilson said we should reflect on a terrorist attack by overcoming ‘divisiveness and negativity’ and accept ‘imperfections and differences.’ Unbelievable.”This is crazy by Allstate,” he wrote. “Maybe — and hear me out here — we should all agree that terrorism will not be tolerated in the United States.”Video of the statement does not appear on Allstate’s social media accounts as of Friday. When reached for comment, the company told The National News Desk that Wilson "unequivocally condemns this heinous act of terrorism and violence in all forms." "We stand with the families of the victims, their loved ones and the community of New Orleans," a spokesperson said. "The reference to overcoming divisiveness and negativity reflects a broader commitment to fostering trust and positivity in communities across the nation." Allstate on Wednesday also wrote it was “devastated” by the tragedy, adding its thoughts and prayers were with the victims and impacted families. New Orleans Saints defensive end Cam Jordan on Wednesday announced he had donated $25,000 to families of the victims of the attack. The Sugar Bowl was hosted in the Caesars Superdome, where the Saints play. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill on Wednesday had proposed the game be pushed back to Friday.
