State Sen. Jerry Cirino said he will introduce his bill Tuesday with plans for it to receive its first committee hearing in Columbus on Wednesday.
by passing a new law that says only a city council can decide what to do with their city’s budget.
“This one seemed to me an egregious attempt to strip the city council of what I think is their duly authorized ability and responsibility to manage the city and all the services that are a part of it,” Cirino said in an interview. “I think it’s poorly constructed... and an affront to the fiscal responsibility the city council has.”
Backers of the People’s Budget amendment say it would give city residents more say over how their tax money is spent and foster civic participation in a city where voter turnout has declined precipitously .

CITY BALLET OF CLEVELAND NUTCRACKER AUDITIONCITY BALLET OF CLEVELAND NUTCRACKER AUDITION City Ballet of Cleveland is holding its annual Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker audition on Sunday, September 17th from 12:30 pm-4:30 pm. The audition is open to all area ballet dancers ages 7 and older, with at least one year of ballet experience. Dancers auditioning for pointe roles, including Act I Snow and Act II Waltz of the Flowers, should wear their pointe shoes to audition. The 2023 Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker performances are scheduled for December 16th at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium. A pre-registration form and $25 audition fee should be submitted by Thursday, September 14th.
