Senator Tommy Tuberville slams House Republicans for a continuing resolution laden with 'Christmas tree ornaments' as the government shutdown deadline approaches.

As the deadline for a potential government shutdown looms, Senator Tommy Tuberville is criticizing his House Republican colleagues for a continuing resolution he deems 'absolutely ridiculous.' He expressed his frustration on 'Mornings with Maria,' stating, 'Merry Christmas, American taxpayer. We're going to buy you a Corvette now. You can't pay for it for 100 years, but we're going to buy you a Corvette. It's absolutely ridiculous what we're doing here.

' The House Republicans released a 1,547-page continuing resolution (CR) to extend FY 2024 government funding levels, providing more time for lawmakers to reach a consensus on FY 2025 funding. This marks the second such extension since FY 2024 concluded on September 30th. The legislation includes provisions addressing healthcare, aiming to mitigate the influence of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), and initiatives to revitalize Washington, D.C.'s RFK Stadium. Other earmarks, nicknamed 'Christmas tree ornaments,' encompass a range of provisions, including duty-free Haitian apparel imports, lithium-ion battery legislation, and $50 million allocated towards President-elect Trump’s inauguration. Senator Tuberville held Speaker Mike Johnson accountable for his earlier promise of a 'clean' CR devoid of extraneous policy riders. The impending deadline for an agreement is Friday midnight. He emphasized the need for a clean CR and urged action on critical issues like farm bill support, citing the potential loss of 50,000 farms in the coming months, and disaster aid for North Carolina, where he accused the Biden administration of neglecting its responsibilities
