GOP lawmakers are set to introduce legislation this week which would instruct the US Treasury to mint silver dollar coins in commemoration of Charlie Kirk.

Kalamazoo County leaders say our area is just beginning to see his impact on the political world. Rep. August Pfluger and Rep. Abe Hamadeh are set to introduce legislation this week which would instruct the Department of Treasury to mint 400,000 silver dollar coins in commemoration of Charlie Kirk. Since Kirk's assassination two weeks ago, Republican lawmakers have sought to ensure that Kirk's memory is not forgotten, from passing a resolution honoring Kirk's life to declaring October 14 — Kirk's birthday — The National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk. And now, Pfluger and Hamadeh are calling on President Donald Trump and the Treasury to collaborate on silver dollar coin design wihich include Kirk's image on one side and on the other side the Biblical phrase: "well done, good and faithful servant," Kirk's full name: Charles James Kirk, and the year 2026. The coin will also include the inscriptions of the words ‘‘Liberty’’, ‘‘In God We Trust’’, ‘‘United States of America’’, and ‘‘E Pluribus Unum’’. "A stalwart believer in American exceptionalism, Charlie loved his country and had great faith in its potential, encouraging his fellow citizens to honor their civic duty and participate fully in upholding their responsibilities as citizens." the lawmakers wrote in the bill obtained by Congress authorized the creation and distribution of commemorative coins in 1892. Historical figures honored with a coin include Christopher Columbus, Sacagawea, former U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall and Susan B. Anthony. If the bill is passed, Kirk, who died at 31, would become one of the youngest figures to be honored on a coin, which Pfluger told Fox News was "a fitting honor that cements his extraordinary legacy alongside presidents and founding fathers who shaped our republic." "Charlie Kirk was a conservative titan whose transformational impact on millions of Americans deserves permanent recognition alongside our nation's greatest leaders and influential figures," Pfluger told Fox News Digitial."He tirelessly sacrificed his time, energy, and money to save this nation for future generations. Ultimately, at the hands of a radical leftist, he sacrificed his life," Hamadeh said. "His life must be commemorated, and this coin will allow us to pass a reminder of his remarkable life on to generations to come."
