Republicans are looking toward 2024 with wary eyes because a split within the party over former President Donald Trump could allow Democrats to win big in the election.
GOP members are concerned that the House and Senate, as well as the White House, could slip from their grasp if the party splits over backing Trump or moving forward with someone else.
"I can imagine a Trump-anti-Trump war over the next two years that just guarantees Biden’s reelection in a landslide and guarantees that Democrats control everything," Gingrich said.Several GOP leaders agree with Gingrich. Many blame Trump for the less-than-expected performance by the GOP in the midterm elections, in which key states such as Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, and New Hampshire stayed blue or flipped to the Democrats.
However, not everyone is ready to raise the white flag so quickly. Sen. Lindsey Graham said that disputes within both parties are normal and that people should not be so quick to panic, according to the Hill. Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel is set on revitalizing the Republican Party to work together in the next election, but she does not want to place blame on any one person for her party's failed midterm elections.
