Former Democrats converting to the Republican Party are surging in Pennsylvania, with four times the number of former Democrats registering as Republicans as vice versa in the battleground state.

The latest data from Pennsylvania's State Department showed that four Democrats have switched to the Republican Party for every one Republican who did the opposite this year. With several contentious statewide elections, including a Senate race that could determine control of the chamber, the gains signal widespread dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden and the broader Democratic agenda.

Democrats still have the majority over Republicans in the state by over half a million registered voters, with 4 million registered Democrats in the state compared to about 3.4 million Republicans, but the GOP is working diligently to close that gap. A source familiar with a GOP ground effort to swell its ranks said economic concerns are driving many people to switch alliances and that the party is working hard to capitalize on the discontentment. Republicans have held successful voter drives at gas stations, where the pain at the pump has become a"driving issue, if you will," for many workers.

While the historical swing back to the minority party during the midterm elections of a first-term president is certainly helping, the Democratic social agenda has alienated many generational Democrats in the Rust Belt. "The farther-left policies, the socialist ideas, some of the virtue-signaling, and the gender stuff all really doesn't resonate with Pennsylvania," the source continued."I think a lot of people are shedding their historical Kennedy or Roosevelt democratic traditions just because the party has alienated them and they have more of a natural home now in the Republican Party.
