Mr Albanese said Australians had voted in 1999 to keep the British monarch as their head of state, and “one of the things you’ve got to do is accept democratic outcomes”. Although he does want to change them, he said he was focused on the Voice to parliament referendum, and that was enough for now. He attended the Queen’s funeral last September, and has had to make a longer-than-expected visit to Britain this week – taking almost six full days out, right before the May 9 budget – to attend the coronation.Fairfax Media
The prime minister acknowledged it would be hard to carry on as a Labor or Liberal politician in Australia if facing criminal charges such as those hanging over former US president Donald Trump. But he quickly moved to the caveat: “I have no intention of interfering in their internal political processes.”
