Originally, the seats were positioned several feet apart, as has typically been the arrangement for White House press conferences during the coronavirus outbreak. Trump used Friday’s press conference — in which he refused to take questions — as a victory lap after the Labor Department reported the U.S. added 2.5 million jobs in May and the unemployment dipped from 14.7% in April to 13.3%: “It’s a big day for our country,” he said. “It’s an affirmation of all the work we’ve been doing.”
