CAPE TOWN - An independent commission's report has found racism is still entrenched at the University of Cape Town . The commission was established by UCT to look into claims of unjust discrimination, domination or violence by students and staff.The commission found evidence of systemic suppression of black excellence in recent years.
The report stated the university will have to move forward sensitively while engaging with students and stakeholders to prevent violent protests. It stated the manner in which the administration dealt with protesting students was insensitive and said staff and students are still dealing with mental stress resulting from the demonstrations.
