CLEVELAND, Ohio - Twelve solar eclipse events hosted across Cuyahoga, Lake and Lorain counties in April resulted in $15.1 million in direct spending on things like hotels, meals, party expenses and more, according to Destination Cleveland, the tourism marketing and management organization for Greater Cleveland.
And the total economic benefit, including indirect spending, totaled $24.6 million, Destination Cleveland said Wednesday in releasing the findings of a report from Tourism Economics, a division of Oxford Economics. “These figures from Tourism Economics show that the eclipse – and the organized events related to it – drove visitation and visitor spending as anticipated,” said David Gilbert, president and CEO of Destination Cleveland. “Additionally, being in the path of totality put Cleveland in the national spotlight with many national news outlets choosing to broadcast or report from our area.
The events included in the study were the Total Eclipse Fest , Lights Out in The Land , Solar Eclipse Viewing Party , Eclipse Day , Rooftop Eclipse Party , Avon Lake Eclipse Watch Party , Solarfest Weekend , Total on the Oval , Eclipse & Sips Viewing Party , Solar Eclipse Party on the Runways , Total Eclipse at Children’s Museum Cleveland and Total Eclipse of the Park
Hotel occupancy in Cuyahoga County averaged 83% for the nights of April 7-8, up 84% compared to the same days of the week in April 2023 .
