A preliminary police report reveals that the suspect in the Stone Oak shooting, identified as Nicholas Poulos, had a history of violence, including an assault on an elderly couple in January.
A preliminary report obtained by KSAT Investigates reveals that three individuals reported Poulos arriving at the location intoxicated. A 44-year-old woman intervened, and Poulos allegedly pushed her to the ground multiple times. The report states that Poulos dragged her by the hair. Poulos left the location in a vehicle but later crashed, police said. He was taken into custody.
His charges included assault causing bodily injury to a family member; two counts of injury to an elderly person with intent to cause bodily injury; and one count of DWI-2nd offense, according to records. Poulos was released on bond the following day and ordered by a judge not to possess or use firearms, according to court records. Poulos was referred to veterans court, and a mental health assessment was ordered, according to court records. \ KSAT confirmed through the Comal County Sheriff’s Office warrants division that Poulos had an active warrant at the time of the Stone Oak shooting. A police report obtained by KSAT states that officers responded to a fight on June 28, 2013. Poulos exhibited signs of intoxication, including swaying, bloodshot eyes, and a strong smell of alcohol, the report states. Officers said Poulos became upset when told he could not ride his motorcycle home due to being intoxicated. During the investigation, Poulos punched a man in the face, causing him to fall backward, the report stated. \ The shooting occurred just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 18700 block of Stone Oak Parkway. The first officer arrived at the scene and was shot in a lower extremity, SAPD Chief William McManus said. A second officer also arrived and was shot. A third and fourth officer later arrived and were shot as well. All seven officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. McManus stated that six of the seven officers injured by gunfire were headed home from the hospital. McManus said that the suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment complex for several hours. However, McManus did not specify when the incident ended. It remains unclear if the suspect died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds or if he died by SAPD gunfire
