Wall Street Journal report says Tucupita Marcano is being investigated by MLB for betting on sport while with Pirates
Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano could face a lifetime ban for allegedly betting on baseball while on the Pittsburgh Pirates’ injured list, the result of an ongoing investigation by Major League Baseball, according to the Wall Street Journal. According to the report, Marcano is accused of betting on games involving the Pirates, although there is no evidence of games being manipulated at this time.
The 24-year-old Marcano had yet to begin a rehab assignment and did not play in Cactus League games in spring training, although he had hit in back-field games. He remains on the injured list. The Padres provided the following statement: “We are aware of an active investigation by Major League Baseball regarding a matter that occurred when the player in question was a member of another organization and not affiliated with the San Diego Padres.
