Rene Borchers, a resident of Beyers Park, said there are many open manholes in her area that are a disaster waiting to happen.
“The manholes are on Campo Street and Atlas Road and they’ve been open for a long time. I have tried to lodge a complaint with the metro, but my calls keep being cut,” said Borchers.
Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said stolen manhole covers are a problem, but the metro is addressing it by using covers made from materials other than steel. “We are now using plastic and concrete covers. Residents must report open manholes because they pose a danger,” he said.Also Read:
