James interest in the 2024 Olympics preceded Team USA’s losses in fourth-place finish in this summer’s World Cup.
Lakers star LeBron James reportedly has an interest in suiting up for the U.S. men’s national basketball team one last time in next year’s Olympics.in playing in one more Olympics, adding that he’s “ready to commit” to Team USA for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
A few of the star players James has reportedly talked to: fellow Laker Anthony Davis, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum and Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green. The report added that James’ interest in playing for the U.S. again preceded Team USA’s disappointing fourth-place finish in this summer’s World Cup. Team USA fell to Germany, the eventual World Cup champions, 113-111 in the semifinals on Friday before dropping the third-place game to Canada 127-118 in overtime on Sunday. James, who’ll turn 39 in December and is entering his 21st NBA season, is a three-time Olympian and two-time gold medalist.James won gold medals with Team USA at the 2008 Beijing and ‘12 London Olympic Games. He was also part of the Team USA squads that won bronze in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and the 2006 FIBA World Championship . The U.S. has won gold in four consecutive Olympics and seven of eight since NBA players were made eligible to play in Summer Olympics basketball starting with the 1992 Games. The Paris Olympics start July 26, 2024, and the U.S. is expected to have a training camp and preseason tour before going to France. Who’ll play for Team USA next summer remains to be seen, but if there’s any legitimacy to the speculation, next year’s squad could receive a significant boost in star power.
