According to the report, business loans recorded the second highest bankruptcy cases with 17.30 per cent , followed by vehicle hire purchases , housing loans and credit card .4PM, a non-governmental organiation that deals with banking, credit and civil problems, said that the government should take immediate action to ensure that borrowers, especially the youth, do not face bankruptcy problems which will ultimately affect their future.
“I interviewed every one of the bankrupt youths; one of the factors is that they are unable to pay their commitments. That is due to the increase in loan payments, for example, the house loan they used to only pay RM800 but now it has increased to RM1,200, and the salary remains the same. The Insolvency Department statistics previously revealed a total of 5,695 bankruptcy cases throughout the past year, including 419 individuals aged 25 to 34, the majority of whom are employed.
