An official at the ICC, identified as Paivi Kaukoranta, President of the Assembly of States Parties, appeared to confirm that the IOM addressed such allegations this year in a comment to the“Following the conversation with the alleged victim, the IOM was not in a position to proceed with an investigation at that stage,” Kaukoranta noted.
The ICC is a global court system that has jurisdiction to prosecute individuals accused of only three types of crimes: genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. It wasby the Rome Statute and thus only has jurisdiction over states that have signed the Rome Statute, significantly diminishing its ability to act.
