While the Red Devils boss' first choice would reportedly be to secure his former player De Jong's services, the 52-year-old is now said to have four other midfielders in mind who could prove to be quality alternatives. The Wolverhampton Wanderers man does have two years remaining on his current deal at Molineux Stadium, so he could be a costly alternative, but he is a player appreciated not just by the Red Devils but by many top clubs in Europe, such is his ability.
Adept at playing defence-splitting passes from deep within the middle of the park, the 25-year-old would certainly be an exciting addition to the United midfield.
