Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene issues demand letter to President Biden
, the letter beamed forth one unsupported statement after another and another and another. The letter essentially attacked Anthony Fauci, MD, demanding that he be removed from his position as Director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases . It heaped a lot of blame for the pandemic on Fauci, yet didn’t even mention the person who was in charge of the White House Coronavirus Task Force in 2020, former Vice President Mike Pence.
Did Taylor Greene provide any real evidence supporting such statements? No, not exactly.
That doesn’t mean that investigations into the origin of the virus shouldn’t continue. A natural origin simply means that humans did not specifically insert something into the genetic composition of the virus to give the virus the ability to infect humans and to spread from human-to-human. There are many different possible natural pathways for viruses to jump from other animals to humans.
It makes sense to further investigate laboratory practices at the Wuhan Institute of Technology as well. Various labs around the world including those in the U.S. do regularly work with and store a range of dangerous pathogens. An oopsies in such labs is not the same as an oppsies in the Pottery Barn. So there is a need to regularly review all of the laboratories’ safety practices and any possible lapses. International standards should be in place, not just country-specific ones.
