Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) admitted the current political situation could be compared to Shakespeare's The Tempest.
Raskin gave a pre-taped interview on MSNBC'S Inside with Jen Psaki that aired Sunday to share how his personal circumstances around the time of January 6, 2021 affected his view of modern-day politics. In the days before the Capitol riot, Raskin's son had died. As a result, the Maryland representative claimed he"didn't feel fear at that point," because he"had already suffered the absolute worst thing [he] could ever imagine.
Psaki, knowing of Raskin's love for Shakespearean works, asked if any one play reminded him of current times. "Well there's a passage in The Tempest: 'Hell is empty and all the devils are here.' I thought about that a number of times," Raskin said. He listed off an example of how technology can be among the"devils" or otherwise."Every generation has to decide how to choose.
