On Thursday, U.S. Congresswoman Nancy Mace announced she will introduce a concurrent resolution to authorize Charlie Kirk to lie in honor at the U.S. Capitol. Kirk, a conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder, was fatally shot Wednesday while speaking at a Utah college campus event.

"Charlie Kirk devoted his life to defending the freedoms defining our nation," Mace wrote in a post on X announcing the resolution. "He inspired millions, led countless souls to Christ, and never wavered in defense of the First Amendment. Such a legacy makes him uniquely worthy of this distinction." Kirk's murder has led to political divide across the country as authorities search for a suspect and motive. “Charlie Kirk was more than a leader, he was a man of faith, integrity, and conviction,” Congresswoman Mace said. “He gave young Americans the courage to speak boldly, to live out their beliefs, and to never waver in the defense of freedom. It is only fitting his life be remembered in the Capitol, where the freedoms he defended are enshrined. His legacy will endure, and his faith will continue to inspire millions.” If approved by the House and Senate, the resolution would allow Kirk’s remains to lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda for a period of time determined by the Speaker of the House and the President pro tempore of the Senate.
