Rep. Katie Porter says black woman should fill Senate position she's running for
Feinstein, 89, has occupied the position for roughly 30 years. She is expected to retire after her current term ends in 2024. Her age led many to speculate that she may be forced to retire before her term was up — a scenario that would require Gov. Gavin Newsom to appoint another candidate in her position.Porter, who is running for the position, said Newsom should appoint a black woman to the position if Feinstein retires early, seemingly disqualifying herself.
“I think there's a reality that we need more diversity of voices in our Congress, we need more people with different kinds of experiences and that means we do need more black people in the Senate, we need more black women in particular,” she continued.
