Johnson’s bill, known as the Panama Canal Repurchase Act of 2025, would allow the president to enter into negotiations for reacquisition of the canal, according to a copy obtained by TNND. It would also ask the president to submit a report to Congress on the progress of negotiations and any “potential challenges” which arise within 180 days of enactment of the legislation. President Trump is right to consider repurchasing the Panama Canal,” Rep. And we gave the Panama Canal to Panama, we didn’t give it to China.” Trump’s call to acquire the canal comes as he has also floated absorbing Greenland into the U.S. Sen.
