Despite what Pressley called a "broken" legal system and a "deeply flawed" culture around sexual assault, she advocated in her letter for reform of both, starting with the accusations against Biden. We must, she wrote, listen to survivors first, and start due process with the assumption that credible witnesses are just that — credible.
Instead, she said she has faith the Democratic party can listen to survivors, start due process, and win an election all at the same time. "I’m here to ask the Biden campaign and the nominee to give a response that models the empathy, diligence, and acknowledgement of broken systems that this conversation demands. I’m asking for true partnership with survivors and advocates, and for policy commitments that get us closer as a nation to reconciling our history of structural violence and oppression," she wrote. "There are survivors in every corner of this nation who can tell you what a more just America would look like.
